I get a “Failed to Load Depreciation Preview” error in Xero. How do I fix this?

(For: ABKN693/ABKINT693 – Advanced Certificate in Xero Assessment)

While completing the ABKN693 or ABKINT693 assessment, you may see a “Failed to Load Depreciation Preview” error when trying to run depreciation.

What’s happening: Due to recent updates in Xero, certain asset settings—specifically the Investment Boost field—can prevent depreciation from running correctly if not set properly.

What you should do: To fix this, follow these steps for all registered assets:

  1. Go to Accounting → Fixed Assets in Xero.
  2. Open an asset and click Edit.
  3. Find the Investment Boost field.
  4. From the dropdown, select No claim.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Repeat these steps for each registered asset.

Once all assets have been updated, return to the Run Depreciation screen and try again.

After updating the Investment Boost setting for all assets, the depreciation preview should load successfully, allowing you to complete this part of the assessment.
