(For: Practice Exercise - Managing Fixed Assets with Xero)
If you're completing Task One: Create Fixed Asset Type and the instructions don’t seem to match what you're seeing, this is often due to one of the following common setup issues. Here's what you can check:
Option 1: Make sure you're on the correct screen
To create an asset type, you must be in the Fixed Assets Settings screen — not the main Fixed Assets screen.
- Go to Accounting > Advanced > Fixed Assets Settings
- From there, you should see the “Asset Types” tab, where new asset types can be added.
Option 2: Use Xero Online (not the Xero App)
These practice tasks are designed for the browser version of Xero.
- If you're using the Xero Accounting App, some menus and features may be limited or unavailable.
- Please access Xero Online using a desktop or laptop browser for full functionality.
Option 3: Navigation may appear slightly different
Xero occasionally updates the look and layout of its platform. If a button or tab looks different, just select the closest matching option based on its function or label.
Rest assured, as of now, we can confirm that the “Asset Types” tab is visible from the Fixed Assets Settings screen, and the fields labelled “Asset Type” and “Asset Account” are also currently available. If these don’t appear for you, it’s likely due to being on the wrong screen or using an unsupported version of Xero.
